Rules of Narration Change Class 5

Rule 1

The words of the speaker are not enclosed within quotation marks. For example,

• Direct Speech: Ben said, ‘I am happy.’
• Indirect Speech: Ben said that he was happy.

Rule 2

The conjunction that is usually used between reporting verb and reported speech in indirect speech. For example,

• Direct Speech: Rahman said, ‘I love music.’
• Indirect Speech: Rahman said that he loved music.

The pronouns and the possessive adjectives also change according to the subject or object of the sentence in direct speech. For example,
