অনিলের মায়ের স্মৃতিভাণ্ডার পূর্ণ ছিল অবিশ্বাস্য পরিমাণ লোককাহিনিতে, আর তিনি মাঝে মাঝে অশরীরী আত্মা আর অনিষ্টকর (দুষ্ট) ভূত সম্পর্কে তাঁর গল্প বলে আমাদের অবাক করে দিতেন।

একদিন সন্ধ্যাবেলা যখন অনিলের বাবা শহরের বাইরে ছিলেন, বাজারের মধ্যে অনিলের উপর তলার ফ্ল্যাটে রাত কাটাতে কমল আর আমি আমন্ত্রিত হয়ে গিয়েছিলাম। তখন অনিলের মা তাঁর জানা নানারকম ভূত সম্পর্কে আমাদের বলতে লাগলেন। পরিচারিকা মুলিয়া এইমাত্র স্নান সেরে খোলা চুলে বারান্দায় এসে দাঁড়াল।

অনিলের মা বললেন, “ও মেয়ে! তোমার ওরকম চুল খুলে রাখা উচিত নয়। ওতে একটি গিঁট দেওয়াই ভালো।”

মুলিয়া বলল, “আমি এখনও চুলে তেল মাখাইনি।”

“কিছু মনে করো না, সূর্যাস্তের সময় (সন্ধ্যার সময়) তোমার চুল খুলে রাখা উচিত নয় ৷ ‘জিন’ নামে একরকম প্রেত আছে, সে তোমার মতো লম্বা চুল আর সুন্দর কালো চোখের প্রতি আকৃষ্ট হয়। তারা তোমাকে তুলে নিয়ে যেতে প্রলুব্ধ করতে পারে!”

মুলিয়া বলল, “কী ভয়ানক!” এই বলে সে তাড়াতাড়ি তার চুলে গিঁট দিল এবং ঘরের মধ্যে নিরাপদ জায়গায় ঢুকে পড়ল।

কমল, অনিল আর আমি একটি দড়ির খাটিয়ায় অনিলের মায়ের মুখোমুখি বসলাম, অনিলের মা বসেছিলেন আর একটি খাটে। তাঁর বয়স বত্রিশের বেশি নয়, আর তাঁকে প্রায়ই অনিলের বড়ো বোন বলে ভুল করা হত।

তিনি বললেন, “কখনো-কখনো। আমাদের এলাকায় একজন অঙ্কের শিক্ষক ছিলেন যাঁর ছাত্ররা ছিল তোমাদের বয়সি। একটি ছেলে পড়াশোনায় খুব ভালো ছিল। একদিন সে যখন ক্লাসের একটি কোণে তার ডেঞ্চে বসেছিল, তখন শিক্ষকমশাই সেই ঘরের দূরের একটি আলমারি থেকে তাকে একটি বই আনতে বললেন। ছেলেটি সেদিন সকালে একটু আলসেমি বোধ করেছিল বলে তার আসন থেকে উঠল না। সে শুধু তার হাতটা বাড়িয়ে দিল, আলমারি থেকে বইটি নিল, আর শিক্ষকমশাইকে বইটি দিল। প্রত্যেকেই অবাক হয়ে গেল, কারণ ছেলেটির বাহু বইটি ছোঁওয়ার আগে প্রায় চার গজ প্রসারিত হয়েছিল! তারা বুঝতে পারল সে একটি জিন; আর তাই সে খেলাধুলায়, ব্যায়ামে এত ভালো যেখানে শরীরের দারুণ ক্ষিপ্রতা দরকার হয়।”

অনিল বলল, “বেশ, আমি যদি একটি জিন হতাম! বিশেষ করে ভলিবল খেলায়।”

অনিলের মা তখন আমাদের অনিষ্টকর ভূত মুঞ্জিয়া সম্পর্কে বললেন যে মুঞ্জিয়া নির্জন পীপুল গাছে বাস করে। যখন কোনো মুঞ্জিয়া বিরক্ত হয়, তখন সে গাছ থেকে বেরিয়ে এসে টোঙ্গা, গোরুগাড়ি, সাইকেল উলটে দেয়। এমনকি শোনা যায় একটি বাসকেও একটি মুক্তিয়া উলটে দিয়েছিল।

অনিলের মা সতর্ক করে দিলেন “যদি তুমি রাতে পিপুল গাছের তলা দিয়ে যাও, তাহলে সাবধান হবে যেন মুখ না-ঢেকে হাই ভুলবে না বা গাছটির সামনে আঙুল মটকাবে না। যদি তুমি ওটি মনে না-রাখো, তাহলে মুঞ্জিয়া সোজা তোমার গলা দিয়ে নেমে যাবে এবং তোমার হজমশক্তি পুরোপুরি নষ্ট করে দেবে!

আর তারপর যখন তিনি বারান্দায় বেরিয়ে এলেন আর পাজামা-পরে আমাদের দ্রুত ছুটে যেতে দেখলেন তখন তিনি আবার এক আর্ত চিৎকার করলেন আর খাটিয়ায় পড়ে গিয়ে জ্ঞান হারালেন।

তারপর থেকে আমরা অনিলের মাকে আর রাতে আমাদের গল্প বলতে দিতাম না।

A Magic Show

I went to Girish Manch to see magic show performed by renowned magician junior P C Sarkar. The hall was filled by spectators. Lights were put off as the show was about to begin. The magician appeared on the stage, dressed in spectacular clothes with a wand in his hand. He was full of energy and had a gentle smile on his face. He started his trick first by cards. Then he showed tricks by strings, colourful papers, almirah and many other objects. Two ladies held the magician tightly and put him into an almirah and they penetrated a number of shining swords inside the almirah from every square, But at our astonishment he was completely unhurt. I was thrilled to see a lady who was cut into three pieces and they were separated by metallic plates.

It was really funny to see a boy having a glass of milk and then the empty glass was again filled with milk as the magician poured it out from his mouth, ears and nose. I enjoyed every bit of it, I wanted to know from my father how did the magician play the tricks. Seeing my interest and curiosity, my father taught me the tricks of cards and strings. Next day I went to school and showed my friends the trick of cards. They all were surprised to see it.
