Active Passive Voice Class 8

When the subject of a sentence does something, it is called the active voice.

Active: I hate home task.

But when something is done to the subject, it is called the passive voice.

Passive: Home task is hated by us.

Rules for Active Passive Voice Class 8

To change active voice to passive voice the following points should be maintained.

(a) Subject of Active voice becomes the Object of Passive Voice.

• I do the work. (Active)
• The work is done by me. (Passive)

• Ram does the work. (Active)
• The work is done by Ram. (Passive)

(b) Subject Pronoun becomes Object Pronoun. The subject Noun remains unchanged.

(c) Object of the Active voice becomes the Subject of the Passive Voice.

• The teacher punished him. (Active)
• He was punished by the teacher. (Passive)

• Ram killed Ravana. (Active)
• Ravana was killed by Ram. (Passive)

Object Pronoun becomes Subject Pronoun. Object Noun remains unchanged.

(c) ‘Be’ verb or ‘Have’ Verb placed before the Past participle form of the Main Verb

According to Tense and Form of active voice, the ‘Be’ verb (am/is/are/was/were/shall be/will be) or ‘Have’ Verb ( has/have/had/shall have/will have) must place before the Past participle form of Main Verb in Passive voice.

(e) Past participle form or the third form of the Verb in the Passive voice.

The main verb of the Active voice is transformed into the Past participle form of the Verb in the Passive voice.
